With a tight labor market spurring competition for front-line and entry level workers, the number of job postings has soared to record levels. Meanwhile, many area employers are boosting wages to attract and retain workers.

UNEMPLOYMENT RATE: 5.0%, down from 5.3% in February 2022

WAGE CHANGE: +5.2% year over year

  • Compensation costs for private industry workers increased 1.1% YoY in the Houston area.
  • Nonfarm wage and salary employment in the Houston area is up 0.2% MoM.
  • The unemployment rate in the U.S. is 3.6%, compared to 5.0% in the Houston area.
