Throughout the Dallas area, businesses in sectors such as retail, manufacturing and hospitality report a shortage of job applicants. With a tight labor market spurring competition for front-line and entry level workers, the number of job postings has soared to record levels. Meanwhile, many area employers are boosting wages to attract and retain workers.

JOBS ADDED: +42,500 month over month

UNEMPLOYMENT RATE: 3.2%, down from 3.3% in March 2022

WAGE CHANGE: 3.0% year over year

  • Leisure and hospitality had the largest employment gain (+14,700) among local private-industry supersectors.
  • Nonfarm wage and salary employment in the Dallas area is up 0.8% MoM.
  • The unemployment rate in the U.S. is 3.6%, compared to 3.2% in the Dallas area.
