Throughout the Dallas area, businesses in sectors such as retail, manufacturing and hospitality are competing for a small pool of job candidates heading into 2023. While some employers have announced job cuts in recent months, the overall labor market remains tight, especially with regard to front-line and entry level workers.
Applications for unemployment benefits have remained historically low in Dallas and throughout the U.S. The Dallas area unemployment rate decreased slightly to 3.3% in November 2021, four percentage points lower than the national statistic (3.6%). Interestingly, while national wages have increased 5.2% year over year, Dallas metro-area wages have increased by just 1.9%. See Q3 2022 numbers here.
