Throughout the Dallas area, businesses in sectors such as retail, manufacturing and hospitality report a shortage of job applicants. With a tight labor market spurring competition for front-line and entry level workers, the number of job postings has soared to record levels. Meanwhile, many area employers are boosting wages to attract and retain workers.
The Dallas area unemployment rate decreased slightly to 3.7%, bringing it closer in-line with the national statistic. As such, number of available jobs month-over-month decreased by 7,400 in Dallas. Meanwhile, the U.S. added 263,000 jobs in the same period. While national wages have increased 5.2% year over year, Dallas increased by 3.1%.
