Throughout the Houston area, businesses in manufacturing, construction and other blue-collar sectors report a shortage of job applicants. With a tight labor market spurring competition for front-line and entry level workers, the number of job postings continues to rise. More than 9,000 jobs were added in the Dallas area during the month of February 2023.
Meanwhile, many area employers are boosting wages to attract and retain workers. The average hourly wage for the Houston metro area in February 2023 was $33.42, a notable increase of 10.9% year over year.
